Firefox tabs are a given awesomeness, while tabs in nautilus and terminal are neat if used correctly, which I don't as of right now.

Re: Please stop this GNOME Tabs Stupidity

You are absolutely right. this is stupid

Re: Please stop this GNOME Tabs Stupidity

I have to agree with you, this is insane. You are afraid of change, admit it, and move on. You sound like MS back when Opera and FF were offering tabbed browsing and they said it was a useless feature. Why are you assuming that because you don't find it useful, no one will. SINCE WHEN DID YOU BECOME A USABILITY EXPERT????? Do you have any valid arguments or is this just another piece of blog spam crap?

Re: Please stop this GNOME Tabs Stupidity

IMVHO tabs might be useful on Nautilus or maybe GNOME has teo copy the Split View that exists in D3lphin (it's the only think that I like from it) that permits you to drag'n'drop thing place to place without opening more than one window.

I use pidgin and tabs are very useful when you have more than one conversation at the same time.

The big stupidity would be to put tabs on Rythmbox or Totem

Re: Please stop this GNOME Tabs Stupidity

I support Linux 100% but I feel that people should make an objective decision for themselves after reading The Truth about Linux.

Re: Please stop this GNOME Tabs Stupidity

I like the tabbed File Explorer.

Re: Please stop this GNOME Tabs Stupidity

I still don't understand people taking this for serious... it's just lame..

Re: Please stop this GNOME Tabs Stupidity

We have playlists for media players, hence we don't need tabs as well.

Re: Please stop this GNOME Tabs Stupidity

Well, I don't think I would use it, but I can't see any harm in having it. Those who want different should be allowed change the settings by themselves.

Re: Please stop this GNOME Tabs Stupidity

(Cross-posted from Digg)

The only way that I'd agree with a movie player having tabs for different movies being played within the same window would be if there was a way to choose from and open movies from the filesystem within the window. That way, I can find a random video and then middle-click it to open it up for later viewing. I'd say something like a Firefox history sidebar or OS X-like side drawer would be necessary for tabbed browsing of movies within the same window.

Without such an addition alongside, I fail to see the need for tabs in such an application as a media player.

Also, I'm surprised that such an application as Miro (based on Firefox, meant for viewing downloaded videos from the web) doesn't allow for tabbed browsing, which would allow for better multitasking.

So it's not necessarily the appropriateness of the tabs or the placement of tabs in an application, but exactly how these tabs are implemented as part of the application's overall user experience.

So totem and other players can do WITH the tabs, but they can definitely do with an active file/folder view to tab-open from.

Re: Please stop this GNOME Tabs Stupidity

man, it's just a joke..

you guys have no sense of humor

Re: Please stop this GNOME Tabs Stupidity

I'm disagree, sorry, but the tabs reduce the number windows in the desktop.
